Raghida Haddad is Editor-in-Chief of SPNL’s biannual Al Hima Magazine, describing it as “a gift to Arab environmentalists, delivering SPNL’s mission to preserve nature by establishing a Hima, i.e. a protected area, in every village and town in every Arab country.”
Executive editor of Al-Bia Wal-Tanmia (Environment and Development), the leading pan-Arab environmental magazine, since its inception in 1996 till 2017. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) had honoured Al-Bia Wal-Tanmia with its Global 500 Award, describing it as an “influential magazine that triggered an unprecedented public awareness campaign in the Middle East, bringing environmental concerns to the Arab public at large.”
Consultant on environmental information and university lecturer in science journalism. Editor and co-author of several environmental books, reports and manuals, including AFED’s Environmental Guidebook for Arab Schools. Regional coordinator of the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) mentoring program.
In 2009, Raghida Haddad was awarded the Earth Journalism Award during the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen, for her journey to the Arctic, covering the international scientific expedition onboard the Canadian research icebreaker Amundsen. She was the first Arab journalist to navigate for two weeks in the Arctic Ocean, getting first-hand experience on global warming where it is unfolding the fastest, and relaying this experience to readers throughout the Arab region.

Al Hima Magazine is published biannually by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), delivering its mission to preserve nature by establishing a Hima (i.e. a protected area) in every village and town in every Arab country. The magazine addresses officials, NGOs, institutions, municipalities and environmentalists in general. Its articles are in Arabic with English summaries.
The first issue was published in partnership with Sigrid Rausing Trust (SRT) and Birdlife International. The second issue was published in partnership with SRT and IUCN. The third issue in partnership with SRT and the European Union. The fourth issue in partnership with SRT and the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS). The fifth issue in partnership with the European Union.
