Sarkis Khawaja is a Lebanese-Canadian architect, environmental advocate, and educator with over 30 years of experience in architecture, urban development, and environmental conservation. He is currently a Partner and Architect at DB3 in Ottawa, Canada, a position he has held since 2020.
In 1992, he founded ARCHIDESIGN in Zgharta, Lebanon, where he has led the firm in designing contemporary residential projects that emphasize dynamic forms, rich materials, and natural light. His passion for design is complemented by his commitment to environmental and urban sustainability.
Sarkis has played a key role in academia, serving as an Architecture Instructor at City University in Tripoli from 2016 to 2020, where he mentored second-year architecture students in architectural design.
His professional background also includes leadership roles such as Head of the Design Department at OPTIMUM Development (2006–2009) and Nature Reserve Manager for the Ministry of Environment – UNDP (1999–2005), where he worked extensively on conservation efforts for Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve.
Beyond his professional work, Sarkis has been actively involved in environmental advocacy and cultural preservation. He is a Founding Member of Friends of Horsh Ehden (since 1991), where he has been instrumental in promoting environmental awareness, lobbying for the protection of the reserve, and participating in national and international conservation initiatives. Additionally, he is a Founding Member of ALPAD (Association Libanaise pour le Patrimoine et Développement), focusing on urban and social development in the Zgharta-Ehden region.
Sarkis holds a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and continues to be a thought leader in sustainable architecture and nature conservation.
